Duration: Hamburg University Workshop
                2 days (Friday,09:30 and Saturday,09:30) - 6 hours each

Aim: Our aim is to present the situation of Turkish as a minority language in Germany. We want to point out that the acquisition of Turkish in Germany is different than the acquisition of Turkish in Turkey. Thus the Turkish spoken in Germany has different characteristics than the standard Turkish in Turkey. We aim to create a sensitization for this “variety” of Turkish. In our opinion the focus should not be on the faults a speaker/writer of Turkish in Germany makes in comparison to the standard but on the language abilities that they already possess. In the context of Turkish speakers in Germany these language abilities would be the command of at least two - German and Turkish - and often more languages in which they interact on a daily basis.

Target Group: Teacher trainees, Teacher trainees that aim to teach Turkish as a heritage language in Germany, students of Turcology, students of educational sciences etc.
